Rio Tinto Minerals with it’s wholly owned subsidiary Luzenac located in France is the world’s leading talc producer supplying 25 percent of the global consumption. Every year, they produce, ship and sell approximately 1.4 million tones to around 5000 customers worldwide. Rio Tinto Mineral owns over 30 talc mines and processing plants in Europe, North America, Central America and Australia which gives them an unique position in the global talc business.
Luzenac was the first talc producer to obtain ISO 9000 certification in 1988 and today all their sites are ISO compliant. Additionally, Rio Tinto alongwith Luzenac are socially and environmentally responsible organizations, which ensure that their operations do not cause harm to people, animals and plant life. At Luzenac, strict quality controls are applied at every stage, from extraction through processing, to packaging and delivery to ensure that the talc produced is of high quality and consistency.
As global leader with over 90 years of experiences; Rio Tinto has been at the forefront in developing new ones for talc, many of which bring sustainable development benefits and in introducing ways to extend the life span of the minerals extraction operations, through better ore-utilization.
