KOLLICOAT ® IR

Graft Copolymers

Kollicoat IR is a polyvinyl alcohol-polyethylene glycol graft copolymer that is freely soluble in water. It is used mainly for the production of instant-release coatings for tablets. As a result of it’s structure, the polymer dissolves very readily in acidic, neutral and alkaline aqueous media. Such aqueous solutions have a comparatively low viscosity. Kollicoat IR reduces the surface tension of water. It’s films are enormously flexible, dissolve very rapidly, are not tacky, have a high pigment binding capacity, can readily be printed and has a much higher elongation at break value than cellulose derivatives.

DESCRIPTION
APPLICATION
Kollicoat IR Polyvinyl alcohol - polyethylene glycol graft copolymer, very soluble in water Instant release coatings and quick dissolving formulations. Also used as a pore former in sustained release formulations and as a binder. It has enormous flexibility, low viscosity and rapid rate of dissolution besides not having to use a plasticizer.
Kollicoat IR White Graft copolymer of 75 % polyvinyl alcohol units and 25 % polyethylene glycol units with other additions form an instant release white coating system To produce white tablets or with a colour premix to produce coloured tablets. Used also for taste masking, appearance enhancing and protection of light sensitive actives.
Kollicoat IR Protect Coprocessed product of Kollicoat IR and PVA to form a homogenous powder. Provides excellent moisture protection and taste masking in addition to advantages of Kollicoat IR
